Meet our U9 "MD" Head Coach: Tyler Duval
We sit down with Tyler for a quick chat.

1. Can you tell us about your background in hockey, both as a player and a coach?

I grew up playing in the Penetang Minor Hockey Association and was fortunate to be part of some great teams. A highlight was winning the International Silver Stick in Port Huron. I also played in three OMHA finals and won multiple Georgian Bay Triangle Championships.
I started coaching two years ago with the Midland U7 Reds, then continued with the same group as U8s. It’s been incredibly rewarding to help young players grow and develop a love for the game.

2. What is your overall coaching philosophy, and what values are most important to you as a coach?

My philosophy is to create a fun, positive, and supportive environment where kids can build skills and confidence. Effort, respect, and sportsmanship are the core values I emphasize.

3. What style of hockey do you coach, and what can players expect in terms of systems and game strategy?

I coach a fast-paced, team-first style focused on effort, smart decisions, and solid positioning. We keep systems simple to help players build confidence and grow their understanding of the game.

4. What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming season?

I’m excited to see the team grow, build strong friendships, and work toward a championship—while having fun and making great memories along the way.

5. Why should players want to be part of the Islanders next season?

The Islanders offer a fresh start with a strong team-first mindset. It’s a supportive, fun, and competitive environment where every player is valued and challenged to improve.

6. Is there anything else you’d like players and families to know about you or the upcoming season?

I’m fully committed to making this season a positive and memorable one. My focus is on development, teamwork, and making sure every player enjoys the game and feels part of something special.
