Another season of Flames hockey is here, and we’re thrilled to see our rinks buzzing again with new faces, returning players, and the best cheering section in town—our families! Whether you’re lacing up for the first time or coming back for another year, welcome to our local recreational league where development, teamwork, and fun come first.
Getting Our Youngest Players Started: Modified Ice
For our newest athletes, we continue to use modified ice to keep the game age‑appropriate, fast, and fun. Smaller playing surfaces mean more puck touches, more skating, and more smiles—exactly what early development should look like.
U9: Building Toward Full‑Ice
U9 players will start the season on half‑ice and then transition to full‑ice mid‑season. This step‑by‑step approach helps players grow their skills and confidence before moving to the larger surface.
U11–U18: Structured for Growth
From U11 through U18, teams will practice once per week and play games on a regular schedule. The focus remains on sharpening individual skills, learning systems, and competing with great sportsmanship.
-
U11 & U13: We’re excited to share that we have healthy numbers in both divisions, with two teams each!
-
U15 & U18: Both age groups feature solid‑sized rosters, ensuring great competition and plenty of ice time for development.
U18 Local League Team Formation
U18 LL teams will be finalized after the U18 A and U18 B tryouts wrap up in mid‑September. Thank you for your patience as we await final numbers.
Exciting New Additions This Season
We’re proud to share that this season, the Flames have invested in some exciting new items for our teams:
All of these will proudly feature the Flames logo, giving our players and teams an even stronger sense of identity and pride.
Jerseys: Care & Respect
Team jerseys will be handed out shortly. These uniforms are a big part of our identity, and we ask all players and families to treat them with respect. Please wash them regularly and take care of them so they last for many seasons to come.
Parent Behaviour & Arena Conduct
We rely on our parents and families to set the tone both on and off the ice. Please remember:
-
Be great role models for your players by demonstrating respect, positivity, and encouragement in the stands.
-
Supervise all children in the arena. Siblings and other young spectators must be under parental supervision at all times. Running in the lobby or hallways, or being excessively loud, will not be tolerated.
-
Parents are expected to take control of their children—arena staff should not be left to intervene. If necessary, a PMHA board member may step in and a meeting will be arranged to address the behaviour. Let’s avoid this by being proactive and respectful.
By working together, we can ensure the rink is a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for everyone.
Communication: We’re Here to Help
We value open communication and want to hear from you throughout the season.
